17 Jan The Bills Got Screwed by the Refs in the Broncos Playoff Game (Once Again!)
I’m 53 years old, and I’ve been a Bills fan my entire life. The feeling I have tonight—after watching the Bills lose to the Broncos 33–30 in overtime—is a painfully familiar one.
This wasn’t just another playoff loss. It was another playoff loss defined by controversial calls that went against us.
Yes, I know the Bills turned the ball over five times. Josh Allen played poorly by his standards, even though he led the team back from a 23–10 deficit. And yes, they absolutely should have taken a knee with 16 seconds left and no timeouts in the second quarter. All of that is true.
But damn—I am so tired of watching every pivotal playoff call seem to go against the Bills.
Brandin Cooks was clearly held in the end zone with no call. Then there was the play where Cooks appeared to make a catch that would have set up a game-winning field goal, only for it to be ruled an interception. That was absolute BS. At the very least, it should have been pass interference on Denver. Sean McDermott was visibly furious in his postgame remarks—not just about the call, but about the officials refusing to slow the game down to make sure they got it right. McDermott almost never criticizes officiating, which tells you something.
And then, to cap it off, the Broncos were gifted two highly questionable PI calls to set up their game-winning field goal.
Look, calls aren’t always going to go your way. That’s sports. But this has become an age-old pattern with the Bills. No team gets exactly 50% of the close, pivotal calls—but honestly, what percentage of those calls have gone Buffalo’s way in the playoffs during the Josh Allen era? Are we even at 10%? It sure doesn’t feel like it.
Are we cursed? Is the league against us? Is the NFL rigged? I don’t know anymore. I’m exhausted. I’ll keep watching, because that’s what Bills fans do—but I’ve officially given up hope that this team will ever win a Super Bowl.
And yes, I want Brandon Beane fired. Now.
Josh Allen should not be relying on Mecole Hardman, Keon Coleman, and Brandin Cooks to score touchdowns in the playoffs. That’s a roster failure. I also want Joe Brady gone. The overtime play-calling was awful, and it’s been bad far too often since he took the job.
If no heads roll after this, it’s going to be very hard for me to get fired up for yet another Bills season next year.
